conversation with natalie and wil, portraits by yajaira sattui

How did you spend your first date?
“We went to a local Miami venue called Churchills to see Del the Funky Homosapien. Then we hung out on Biscayne Bay by the water and kissed for the first time”

What are some of your favorite rituals or routines in your relationship?
“One of our rituals is watching a film together or listening to a podcast and pausing it every now and then to discuss any interesting topics or points that were made and how it relates to us and what we are interested in.”

We know that you’re both artists, how does creativity come up in your relationship?
“Our art forms complement each other and we love to work together even if it’s on separate projects, side by side. Wil is a clothing and graphic designer and we have collaborated on my musical projects where he has created my flyers or designed clothing for my bandmates. I’ve modeled for his designs and have made music for his visual work. We currently help each other with building out our current spaces. We also love to brainstorm how we want to build out our future home and what furniture and space we would like to have.”
How have your ideas of intimacy evolved since you met each other?
“It has evolved from more of a surface level version of intimacy to one where we are more transparent and vulnerable with each other. It’s grown into a lot deeper form.”

What is your partner's love language?
“Wil loves to have quality time and a lot of physical touch. I put more emphasis on acts of service, but also really enjoy quality time. I think we are different in that I require a lot of space and Wil doesn’t need as much. I think there are areas in which I would prefer Wil to participate in and vice versa as he has mentioned, but over time we’ve come to the understanding that we are two different people and it’s okay if we have our own thing going on.”
